Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russia’s space agency, boasted about the country’s hypersonic missiles to schoolchildren, but experts have cited the ongoing threats and boasts to divert attention from a struggling invasion
One of Russia’s Satan 2 hypersonic missiles could “destroy half the coast of a continent,” boasted one of Vladimir Putin’s allies.
Dmitry Rogozin, head of Russia’s Roscosmos space agency, showed schoolchildren and students some of the deadliest missiles in his country’s arsenal at an education summit yesterday.
He wore his space agency uniform and showed them a video of a series of Russian strategic missiles at a “federal education marathon” called “New Horizons.”
This culminated in him showing them the Sarmat, also known as the Satan-2, an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of hitting targets at 15,880 miles per hour.
“Here you can see the test launches of our missiles,” he boasted.

He added: “The smallest ones are shown in parades in Red Square… The largest ones don’t fit in Red Square because they are too big.
“Now you can see [on video] Topol, Yars, Bulava anti-submarine missile … and finally Sarmat …
“Such a rocket [Sarmat] can destroy half the coast of a large continent, which we may not like given its aggressive policies.”
Rogozin said the “unstoppable” Satan-2 will “take up combat duty” next fall.
“We also produce Iskanders and hypersonic Kinzhals in our factories,” Rogozin added.
The Satan-2 missiles are nuclear-capable, and this is just the latest in a long line of allegedly veiled threats by Russian officials and state-media propagandists.
Some experts have said the threat of nuclear attacks is an attempt to cover up an otherwise weak military campaign in its invasion of Ukraine.
On Wednesday it was claimed that a new mobile laser beam system called Peresvet could “blind” all of an “enemy’s” satellite reconnaissance systems up to an orbit of nearly 1,000 miles.
The vice premier also boasted of a separate laser system capable of knocking down enemy drones.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy laughed at these claims, comparing them to Nazi propaganda.
In a late night address he said: “The more it became clear that they had no chance in the war, the more propaganda about an amazing weapon that would be so powerful as to ensure a turning point.
“And so we see that in the third month of an all-out war, Russia is trying to find its ‘silver bullet’…all this clearly demonstrates the utter failure of the mission.”
This comes as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues towards the end of its third month since Putin’s forces began their “special operation” on February 24.
Tens of thousands have died since then, with reports suggesting that Russia has suffered the heavier casualties.
According to the United Nations, more than six million people have fled the country and countless others have been internally displaced.
