In March, Vladimir Putin’s opponent Alexei Navalny – who nearly lost his life after being poisoned with Novichok – was sentenced to nine years in prison for “cheating and insulting the court”.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny faces another 15 years in prison.
Navalny – who has already been sentenced to nine years in prison – claims an investigator brought new charges against him in Russia today.
The new charges allege that he “created an extremist group to incite hatred against officials and oligarchs,” he wrote on Twitter.
His statement is: “I don’t know. Or maybe Putin doesn’t hate me but secretly loves me?
“That’s why he wants me – just like himself – to be hidden in an underground bunker, guarded by reliable people.
“How else to explain that not even 8 days passed when the verdict came into force, after which they gave me 9 years of strict regime, and today the investigator galloped up again and officially charged in a new case.
“It turns out I created an extremist group to incite hatred against officials and oligarchs. And when I was incarcerated, I dared to be so dissatisfied (indeed I was) and called for rallies.”
“I’m supposed to throw up to 15 years for that.”
Last month, Navalny said he feared being sent to a “torture” prison notorious for sexual violence when his new sentence went into effect.

Navalny – a leading enemy of Vladimir Putin who is currently in another, less harsh prison – posted: “My [new] The verdict has not yet come into force, but prisoners from the high-security colony of Melekhovo write that they are equipping a ‘prison in prison’ for me there.”
Navalny has said he wants to replace Putin and that he would win an election if it wasn’t rigged in favor of the Kremlin leader.
