Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky and his wife Olena are finally reunited in the couple’s first joint interview since Russia invaded their country.
Olena fled with her children Oleksandra and Kyrylo, aged 17 and nine, at the start of the war in Ukraine and had sought refuge in an unidentified part of the country.
Ms Zelenska reportedly said she was not surprised that her husband had inspired the world with his steadfast leadership and impressive opposition to Russia.
She added: “Nobody takes my husband away from me, not even the war.”
“‘I cannot say that Volodymyr has changed since the beginning of this war. He was a dependable husband and a dependable man before, and he remains so.
“His point of view hasn’t changed, the way he’s wired hasn’t changed.”
President Zelenskyy said: “We were not the ones who started this war, but we will be the ones who will end it.”
The news came as the Azovstal Steel Plant in Mariupol finally surrendered to the Russian invaders and Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a new attack on Donbass.
However, Russian forces were driven out of the outskirts of Ukraine’s second largest city, Kharkiv, in the fastest retreat since they were driven out of the north and Kyiv region in late March.

“They reviewed options to open critical sea and land supply routes for Ukrainian grain supplies and pledged to direct their teams to work urgently on next steps.”
The men also agreed to step up work with allies like the US, France and Germany to “define the longer-term security architecture for Ukraine.”
