Volunteers take part in Brighton Beach Clean

DOZENS of volunteers took part in a beach cleanup after Pride celebrations yesterday.

The cleanup, organized by Surfers Against Sewage and the World Cetacean Alliance, took place this morning around 7am to noon.

People who donated their time received a free bracelet for the We Are Fabuloso Festival in Preston Park this afternoon.

The Beach Clean saw two separate sessions, one on Brighton Beach near Shelter Hall and further east on Kemp Town Beach, east of Palace Pier.

A spokesman for the two charities said: “Although Pride does not manage or organize events on the beach, we all feel a responsibility to keep our town clean, not just over Pride weekend but throughout the year.

“Our beaches are the crowning glory of our city and we are proud to have partnered with a number of other local community organizations to support and sponsor the second ‘Big Pride Beach Clean’ delivered by Surfers Against Sewage.

“We will sort, separate and recycle as much as we can and appreciate your help with this. City Clean works with us to ensure that valuable materials are actually recycled.”

The festival’s main stage features Lyra, Cat Burns, Bjorn Again, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Jake Shears and headliner Paloma Faith.
