Rebekah Vardy has been ordered to pay £1.5million for Coleen Rooney’s legal fees after her libel battle at the “Wagatha Christie” High Court.
rs Vardy, 40, lost her high-profile defamation lawsuit against Ms Rooney, 36, in July when Ms Justice Steyn ruled that Ms Rooney’s viral social media post accusing Ms Vardy of leaking her private information to the press , “essentially true”.
In an order released on Tuesday, the judge ruled that Ms Vardy should pay 90% of Ms Rooney’s costs.
Ms Rooney incurred total costs of more than £2million but £350,000 of that had already been accumulated ahead of the May trial so this was removed to give a final figure of £1,667,860.
Ms Vardy has been ordered to pay £800,000 of the cost bill by 4pm on November 15.
She is also having to pay the costs of seven journalists who were potential witnesses but did not testify – apart from part of their costs which Ms Rooney has already been ordered to pay.
