Walmart entered the Metaverse on Monday with the release of two new immersive experiences – “Walmart Land” and “Walmart’s Universe of Play” – which will be available on the popular virtual world gaming platform Roblox.
The new virtual Walmart experiences provide customers with interactive content and entertainment through a very wide range of activities while promoting business in new ways. Walmart aims to reach younger customers throughout the Metaverse.
“We’re going big – creating community, content, entertainment and games through the launch of Walmart Land and Walmart’s Universe of Play,” said William White, chief marketing officer at Walmart US, in a press release.
“Roblox is one of the fastest growing and largest platforms in the metaverse, and we know our customers spend a lot of time there. So we’re focused on creating new and innovative experiences that excite them, something we’re already operating in, the communities they live in and now the virtual worlds they play in,” said White.
Walmart Land offers three grand experiences, including Electric Island, House of Style, and Electric Forest.
Users can find activities through the experiences such as music festivals, a piano walkway, dance competitions, a virtual store, a DJ booth, Netflix quizzes, a roller rink, a virtual dressing room, a pose challenge, and oversized cosmetic obstacle course.
Walmart’s Universe of Play includes “immersive games” that feature popular characters from series such as Paw Patrol and Jurassic World.
It also includes “coveted rewards” where users can try to collect as many virtual toys as they fall from the virtual sky. This is also “virtual adventures” where users travel through the virtual world on e-mobility devices such as hoverboards.
