The National Cyber Security Council has issued a rare national warning after a series of dangerous cyberattacks purportedly by Kremlin-backed hackers.
“UK organizations are being called upon to strengthen their cybersecurity resilience in response to malicious cyber incidents in and around UkraineUK Cyber Force said.
It comes amid warnings that Putin could double his troops on the border if he orders an all-out conquest.
Cyber-ops director Paul Chichester said: “Last week’s incidents in Ukraine bear the hallmarks of similar Russian activity.”
One attack brought down nearly 70 officially linked websites while another wiped out servers with malware.
The NCSC said it repeated attacks by the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence agency, on Ukraine in 2017 and Georgia in 2019.
“While we are not aware of any specific cyber threats to UK organizations related to events in Ukraine, it is important for organizations to… make sure they have the capability to do so. resilience,” added Chichester.

About 127,000 Russians – about 40% of Russia’s army – surrounded Ukraine on three fronts.
They include 35,000 people in Belarus, just a few hours’ drive from Kyiv, according to British estimates.
A top Western intelligence source says troops in Belarus will join the war games next week.
“If they wanted to launch an attack smaller and shorter than a full-blown occupation, they could do so today with no or no warning,” he told The Sun.
But if Putin plans to capture and hold the largest country in Europe, he will have to double the number of troops from 60 battle groups to “north 100”, he added.
The Kremlin has transported units from afar to Siberia for the first time since Hitler invaded Russia in 1941.
“It’s unprecedented in the modern era,” he said.
“They have the force available. They have enough strength to move them and they seem to have the will to do so. ”
When asked how long it would take, he said: “Probably a couple of weeks.”
