Warning to anyone who has had Covid over links to 20 dangerous conditions

PEOPLE who contract Covid are at higher risk for 20 different conditions, a new study warns.

Even those who didn’t have an illness severe enough to be hospitalized could develop problems.

The study, published in Nature Medicine, warned of long-term effects on the heart and vascular system.

These include cardiac arrest, Heart failure, stroke, cardiac arrhythmia, blood clots, blood vessel disease and inflammatory diseases.

Experts examined data from over 11 million US veterans, including 154,000 who had contracted Covid.

They then estimated the risks within a year for about 20 cardiovascular diseases.

The researchers found that those who had contracted Covid a year earlier were at significantly higher risk than those who did not have the bug.

This risk then increased the more serious her case was.

Evelina Grayver, director of women’s heart health at Northwell Health in New York, who was not involved in the study, said Fox News: “20 heart conditions have been diagnosed in patients suffering from long-distance Covid.

“The most common are shortness of breath and fatigue.

“The new arrhythmias, or abnormal heart rhythms, that people experience are also significant and can become an incredible disability for many patients.”

People with Covid had a 72 percent higher risk of heart failure after 12 months.

And about 45 more people per 1,000 developed one of the 20 diseases compared to uninfected people.

However, it is worth noting that the study period ended before vaccines were available.

The 20 conditions:

  • stroke
  • TIA
  • atrial fibrillation
  • sinus tachycardia
  • sinus bradycardia
  • Ventricular arrhythmias
  • atrial flutter
  • pericarditis
  • myocarditis
  • Acute coronary disease
  • Heart attack
  • Ischemic Cardiomyopathy
  • angina
  • heart defect
  • Non-ischemic cardiomyopathy
  • cardiac arrest
  • cardiogenic shock
  • pulmonary embolism
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Superficial vein thrombosis

*Symptoms and signs for each condition can be found on the NHS website

So almost all of the veterans examined had not received a single stitch when they caught Covid.

The risks still apply to people who have had Covid, but this research doesn’t cover whether vaccines reduce the potential for developing the 20 conditions.

A number of extremely positive studies show that Omicron is milder than other strains, particularly in vaccinated individuals.

Covid booster shots protect against Omicron and offer the best chance of surviving the pandemic, health officials have repeatedly said.

“Covid is an equal opportunity offender,” said Ziyad Al-Aly, senior study author and research director for the VA St. Louis Health Care System.

“We found an increased risk of cardiovascular problems in old and young people, in people with diabetes and without diabetes, in people with obesity and people without obesity, in people who have smoked and in people who have never smoked.

“What really worries me is that some of these conditions are chronic conditions that will literally scar people for life,” he said. “It’s not like you wake up tomorrow and suddenly you don’t have heart failure anymore.”

It comes after another study found those who have battled the infection are at higher risk a life-threatening condition that already affects five million Britons.

They were 46 percent more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes for the first time in a year after a positive test.

The finding also applies to people who have had less severe symptoms or no symptoms at all.
