IF you have an Android phone, you need to do an important security check.

Your app pile grows over the years – and it’s easy to lose sight of your privacy.

A simple way to increase your virtual security is to check the permissions you have given to those apps.

Permissions allow apps to access different parts of your Android phone.

Maybe it’s the camera, the microphone, your location, or personal photos.

Of course, many apps require specific permissions to work.

WhatsApp needs access to the microphone to allow voice memos.

And Instagram needs access to your camera, otherwise you won’t be able to record stories in the app.

Likewise, Uber needs to know your location for taxi rides, and a photo editing app needs to be able to see the pictures you have on your phone.

But you should be very careful when an app has some weird permission that doesn’t make any sense.

And consider denying some permissions for apps you’ve had for a while but rarely use.

Some apps can use your data for nefarious purposes.

Luckily, you can easily deny these permissions and protect your private information and media from rogue apps.

How to check Android app permissions

You can check your Android app permissions at any time — and make a habit of doing so.

Here’s what you need to do…

  • 1. Go to Settings
  • 2. Tap Apps
  • 3. Select the app you want to change (you may need to press See all apps).
  • 4. Tap Permissions
  • 5. Change permissions with Allow or Disallow

You may be able to select additional levels of detail for certain permissions, such as location, camera, and microphone.

This could include access only while using the app, “ask every time” and “don’t allow”.

You can also change permissions based on their type – such as B. Photo Access.

Just go to Settings > Privacy > Permissions Manager, select a type, then change permissions from there.
