It’s possible that a quirk of Android Auto is affecting your battery life.

Android users have flocked to the Google forums to report the issue, as spotted by auto evolution.

Users say that a message appears saying “Searching for Android Auto”.

A Google forum post begins: “Since my Pixel 6 Pro got Android 13 two days ago, I often get the ‘Searching for Android Auto’ notification when I’m not in my car.

Any Android phone owner will be prompted to enable the new setting - don't ignore it

“Turning off bluetooth stops it. But it comes back when bluetooth is on.

“Android Auto works wirelessly and wired in the car. It shouldn’t keep trying to connect when I’m not in the car.”

Several users have since replied to the thread saying they are having the same issue.

It is possible that this problem is related to the new Android 13 update.

Another poster wrote: “Yep – same goes for me – Pixel 6 Pro – use Android Auto in my car but phone keeps looking for it.

“In one day, there were about 1,500 ‘connection status’ notifications within a few hours. Crazy.”

And one added: “My Pixel 4a does the same. Thinks my Galaxy Smartwatch 4 is a car.

“Draining my watch and phone battery. Tried turning off wifi on Android Auto but it doesn’t work anymore. Grrrr!”

Google nightmare

A Google Community Specialist from the Android Auto team responded to the thread: “We have escalated this issue to the rest of the team.

“We will update with more information as it becomes available.”

Users say that the constant notifications cause a lot of battery life.

It’s possible that turning off Bluetooth entirely can fix the problem temporarily.

However, this is not an ideal solution and may require a software update from Google.

We’ve contacted Google for an update and will add any response to this story.

What is Android Auto?

Android Auto is an app system for mobile phone owners who also drive cars.

With it, you can mirror the functions of your Android phone on a car infotainment system.

There is a similar system for iPhone owners called Apple CarPlay.
