Warning to millions of WhatsApp users – muting contacts is changing forever

WHATSAPP makes a big change to muting contacts with Do Not Disturb.

It makes it a lot easier when you want to disconnect from the world – and keep those annoying phone calls at bay.

Usually, WhatsApp tests changes in the beta test version of the app.

Now for the sniffer dogs WABetaInfo dug into the app to discover a Do Not Disturb tweak in the Android beta.

Now when you turn on Do Not Disturb, you can see which calls you’ve muted and missed.

The system-wide Android Do Not Disturb is designed to block unwanted contacts.

And when you use it to mute WhatsApp, you can now see a list of missed voice calls suppressed by Do Not Disturb.

If you go to your call log, you’ll see a purple banner on some calls that says, “Mute by Do Not Disturb.”

It is important that this information is only visible to you as the call recipient.

The person making the call has no idea you have Do Not Disturb turned on.

It’s a practical change, but unfortunately it’s impossible to know exactly when this will be available to the general public.

The update can take days, weeks or even months before we see it in the actual live version of WhatsApp.

But you can try it now in the Android beta.

How to get WhatsApp beta

To download WhatsApp Beta for your smartphone you have to go Google Play on yours Android and search for whatsapp.

Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.

Tap the “I’m in” button, then tap “Join” to confirm.

Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.

Join the WhatsApp beta iOS to the iPhone is more difficult and has a limited capacity.
