Watch – Brink’s van transporting money catches fire on the N11

A Brinks Allied Security van carrying a significant amount of cash caught fire on the N11 near Rathnew on Friday morning.

The van was traveling south between Junction 16 and Junction 17 when smoke began to rise from the engine. The driver managed to pull the vehicle over the curb and exit the van before the flames began to take hold.

Units from Wicklow and Rathdrum Fire Services were on the scene by 8.30am and quickly had the situation under control, although the Brinks van was completely destroyed.

The money carried aboard the van was secured in a fireproof container and it was hoped the cash would be salvageable after the fire.

The road was temporarily closed while firefighters fought the flames.
