Here was a great photo opportunity at Ormond in Waterford last December. The couple, who made the first-ever down payment on a home in the new development on Six Cross Road, received their keys just in time for Christmas.

It was a happy moment for all involved as the first residents finally moved into the much needed development.

Cosmo Developments’ new build project officially launched in October 2021 but pent-up demand for a home near the city of Waterford meant the homes sold out as early as April last year.

It is now in its third phase and interest has not wavered. The Wren house type is the last to be for sale. It is a three bedroom semi-detached house with a floor area of 1,151 m².

The A rated home, priced at €299,950, will be built with insulated concrete formwork and will feature an air to water heat pump and will be highly insulated throughout.

Inside there is a living room at the front with an open plan dining/kitchen area with a utility room at the rear of the house. The handcrafted kitchens feature a kitchen island or breakfast bar and Grade A appliances including an integrated fridge freezer.

Upstairs are three bedrooms (master en suite) and a bathroom. A retractable ladder to the attic will also be installed.

Outside, the driveway is paved and has space for two cars. The garden behind the house is sown and the beds are laid out between the houses.

The City of Waterford won the Irish times Best Place to Live in Ireland award last year. This award may have given home seekers food for thought and contributed to Ormond’s high demand.

It doesn’t hurt that the development is only 3.5 km outside of the city.

The area is home to major employers such as the University Hospital and Institute of Technology, as well as the pharmaceutical companies GlaxoSmithKline, Eirgen, Sanofi and Bausch + Lomb.

For young families thinking of moving, there are 21 primary schools and nine secondary schools in the city.

Homes from this phase are due to be completed by June, with two more phases to follow shortly.
