The seasonally beloved FM Christmas radio show surpassed its €150,000 fundraising goal for charity today, with listener donations of €161,486 to several charities for biggest children in Ireland.

On television from the Clayton Hotel, famous faces were on set all day during the 12-hour radiothon, including comedian Michael Fry, podcaster James Kavanagh, Shannon Island ex Reilly McGrath and Dancing with the Stars star Hughie Maughan.

There is also strong online support including retweets from the Rolling Stones Ronnie Wood.

By lunchtime, €75,000 had been donated to Barnardos, Barretstown, Make-A-Wish Ireland and Community Foundations for Ireland through the Miracle of Christmas initiative and by the 7pm deadline , this amount has increased to 161,486 €.

“We have the best listeners in the world,” the station said in a tweet.

“Thank you for your kindness, from the bottom of our hearts.”

Christmas FM was founded 15 years ago to raise money for charity every December and since 2008 has raised almost 3 million euros for many good causes.

It is broadcast from November 27 to December 27 every year and is online year-round.
