The cancellation of Australian soap Neighbors is sad, but now is the time to celebrate the show, said Jason Donovan.
eighbours first aired in 1985 and follows the lives of the people who live and work in Erinsborough, a fictional Melbourne suburb.
Donovan, 53, played the role of Scott Robinson on the soap opera from 1986 to 1989.
The series, which focuses on the Ramsay Street cul-de-sac, will end production in June after failing to secure new funding after being dropped by its broadcaster earlier this year.
Speaking on the BBC Breakfast, Donovan said: “I think it’s sad… but I think it’s time to celebrate the neighbours.
“To be honest, it has bothered my family for a long time.
“My daughter is currently there, my father was there. I think we should be thankful for what Australia has had, there have been actors, producers, writers, directors.”
Donovan’s character, Scott, was the screen lover of Charlene Mitchell, played by Australian actress and singer Kylie Minogue.
Scott and Charlene were the power couple of Ramsay Street and favorites of the soap’s viewers.

Their wedding was watched by more than two million Australian viewers when it first aired and later attracted almost 20 million viewers when it was shown in the UK in 1988.
The ceremony became one of the most-watched TV moments of the decade.
Donovan added: “My father fought incredibly hard for Australian content on television in the 70’s because the governments of the time wanted to bring in cheaper exports and as a result of that we have productions like Neighbors, Priscilla, Muriel’s Wedding, Moulin Rouge, an identity through art.”
After it was announced that Neighbors would be ending production, Minogue, 53, said she will be “forever grateful” for her time on the show.
Paying tribute to the soap on Twitter, she added, “We had no idea how big the show was going to be and how passionately viewers would take it to heart.
“Pure love! I can still hear Madge calling out… CHARLENE!!!!”
The show also launched the careers of Hollywood stars like Margot Robbie and Liam Hemsworth.
