It will be mostly cloudy today with patchy rain or drizzle moving across parts of Connacht and West Ulster until late morning.
The rest of the country will remain mostly dry today, with a mix of clouds and some bright spells, Met Éireann said.
By late afternoon, more sustained rains will sweep across the country, particularly in Atlantic seaboard counties, and maximum temperatures will be between 11 and 14C with moderate southerly breezes.
Overnight rain spreads to the east while the west dries up by dawn.
Wednesday will be mostly dry but towards evening rain will return to the South West with highs of 13 to 16. It will be cold overnight, down to 5C in northern counties.
The Met Éireann says the rest of the week will remain unclear.
Early indications are that the weekend will be windy with rain easing in the east of the country.
Bright spells and extended showers are expected for the west as heavy rains ease.
