Weather Ireland: Met Éireann forecast Electric Picnic Washout with upcoming thunderstorms

There will be a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms on Saturday before very heavy rain and the possibility of flooding make Electric Picnic a downfall.

Saturday begins cloudy and wet for much of Ulster and Leinster, with rain slowly tapering north as the day progresses. There will be a mix of sunshine and isolated showers in Munster and Connacht, potentially becoming heavy and thundery.

It will feel a bit cooler today with highs of just 14-17.

“It will be very wet tonight (Saturday). Initially there will be clear spells and scattered showers, but then persistent showers accompanied by thunder and strengthening south-east winds will sweep north across the country,” said meteorologist Conall Ruth.

“The rain will be heavy in places, bringing with it the possibility of local flooding. Minimum temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees. It will be stormy in many areas, especially along the east and north coasts.”

Heavy rain will be expected heading north on Sunday morning, and the afternoon and early evening will be mostly clear with only scattered showers, but another heavy band of rain will come from the southwest as Sunday night approaches. Maximum temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees are expected.

Electric picnic attendees should also be aware of the possibility of intermittent strong winds on Saturday evening.

The weather is forecast to be highly variable with wet and windy conditions forecast for the next week.

Sunday will be a windy day with sunny spells and some scattered showers.

“By the evening, another strong band of rain will sweep across the southern half of the country and the winds will pick up,” Ruth said. “Maximum temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees with fresh and gusty southeast winds. Rain will clear to the north overnight, followed by clear spells and isolated showers.”

At the beginning of next week, the weather on Monday and Tuesday is likely to be mixed with scattered showers and sunshine.

From the weekend the temperatures will rise slightly with highs of 17-22 degrees. Weather Ireland: Met Éireann forecast Electric Picnic Washout with upcoming thunderstorms
