Weather Ireland: Met Éireann forecast heavy rain and wind en route when Electric Picnic starts

A heavy band of rain will develop in the west, spreading across the country on Friday and bringing persistent showers ahead of the weekend.

The day will start cloudy as thousands descend on Stradbally, Co Laois for the electric picnic for the weekend before scattered showers develop over the eastern half of the country.

In the further course of the afternoon, continuous rain sets in in the west, which spreads across the country to the east until the evening. It will still feel warm with highs of 17-22 degrees.

Friday night will be cloudy and wet with intermittent heavy outbursts of moderate south-west to west winds.

Met Éireann has issued a weather warning from 19:00 on Friday evening which may mean travel disruptions due to wind and rain.

“Saturday morning rain will push to the northeast and be limited to the north and east by the afternoon. Elsewhere there will be a mix of sunshine and showers, some of the showers will be heavy and thundery. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees with a fresh south or south east breeze,” said a Met Éireann forecaster.

Looking ahead to Saturday night, the national forecaster is forecasting wet and windy weather with the potential for very windy weather Saturday night and into Sunday morning. There is also a possibility of local flooding due to heavy rain.

Strong winds will ease on Sunday morning as the heavy rain eases northwards and it will be a windy day with sunny intervals and a few scattered showers.

“Another strong band of rain will descend over the southern half of the country and the winds will pick up. Maximum temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees with fresh and gusty southeast winds. Rain will clear north overnight, followed by clear spells and scattered showers. Minimum temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with fresh and stormy southeast winds,” said the meteorologist.

Bright spells and scattered showers will begin on Monday, before sustained rain spreads from the south later in the day.

It will be another mild day with maximum temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees with a fresh and gusty southeast wind.

Tuesday will see a day of sunny spells and scattered showers, some of which will be heavy in places. With stormy south or south-east winds, the maximum values ​​​​reach 22 degrees.
