Well-being card for Marilyn Monroe from estranged father as part of US auction

A personalized health card sent by her father to Marilyn Monroe is at the heart of a collection of items belonging to the world-famous actress about to be auctioned off.

Late next month, 175 items from the life and career of Hollywood stars will be auctioned at the Hollywood Icons and Idols auction, taking place in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.

The card came from Monroe’s personal archive and was sent by her father, Stanley Gifford, with whom she was estranged, according to Julien’s Auctions, the organizer of the sale.

It is reported that Monroe has repeatedly tried to contact her father without success for many years and has visited the town of Hemet, California, where he lives, to look for him.

It is believed that Gifford did not want to upset his wife and children by allowing the actress to be a part of his life.

Julien’s Auctions said the card was the only known written message from Monroe’s father to her.

Written in Gifford’s handwriting, with the misspelled name “Marylyn”, it reads: “Attention this happy little health special to say that many thoughts and wishes are also with you. you every day… a little prayer too. “

Discovered by Marilyn Monroe historian and collector Scott Fortner, it is estimated to be worth up to $3,000 (£2,400).

Other items in the sale include wardrobe items worn by the screen queen in her most famous photographs, star-making moments and personal appearances.

Letters, makeup, and other items from her life and career will also be on the podium.
