West Brom boss doesn’t rule out move for Brighton defender

WEST BROM manager Steve Bruce is not ruling out a move for Albion defender Matt Clarke.

The defender spent last season on loan at the Baggies and put in some impressive performances for the West Midlands side when he was named West Brom Fan Player of the Season in 2021/22.

Clarke is currently at Albion for pre-season and is now in the final year of his contract with the club.

The 25-year-old joined the Seagulls in June 2019 on a four-year contract from Portsmouth for a fee in the region of £3.5million and was manager Graham Potter’s first signing at the club but he is still awaiting his first-team debut .

Baggies boss Steve Bruce has admitted he would still be interested in re-signing the centre-back but knows Albion will have the final say.

He told Birmingham Live: “We have to be respectful of Brighton and what they want.

“They indicated they wanted to see him in preseason to decide what they wanted to do. We all turn the plates. We have to respect Brighton to see what they want.

“You just got back. We will see. I don’t rule that out.”
