A large family gathering who won the lottery jackpot at the end of June have claimed their prize worth over €5 million and are now looking forward to celebrating ‘in style’.
Celebrations were in full swing in the National Lottery winners room today as the family, who wish to remain anonymous, claimed the €5,612,385 prize they won on Wednesday 29 June.
A spokesman for the family said they still can’t believe they won such a life-changing amount of money.
The family has been playing the same numbers for nearly two decades.
“We’ve been riding the same numbers for 18 years and couldn’t believe it when they actually came up. Our numbers are made up of birthdays and special dates that mean something to all of us. We must have checked the ticket between us a hundred times,” they said.
“We’re looking forward to paying off our mortgages, changing some cars and going on vacation. We’re a really close family and we can’t wait to celebrate in style together.”
The family of 16 have become Ireland’s sixth lottery jackpot winner this year. They bought their regular game winning ticket from the Day Today Store in Slaney Place, Enniscorthy.
Meanwhile, a second family consortium won another major National Lottery prize today.
The Co Laois family cashed in their top prize of €500,000 in the EuroMillions Plus draw on Tuesday 12th July.
The family, who also wish to remain private, spoke about the difference the win will make in their lives.
“Refueling cost me 100 euros yesterday,” said a syndicate member. “It will take a lot of pressure off us and calm us down a bit.”
Your winning Quick Pick ticket was sold at the Gala shop on Grattan Street, Portlaoise on the day of the drawing.
“As crazy as it sounds, I’m really looking forward to buying really expensive yarn and knitting myself a beautiful sweater. It’s a huge hobby of mine,” added another syndicate member.
Also today, the grand prize winner of last night’s EuroMillions Plus draw took home a hugely significant prize. The Dublin player, who chose to remain anonymous, has already taken home the €500,000 prize. The winning ticket was purchased at Jordan’s SuperValu, Fortunestown, Tallaght, Dublin on Monday 18th July.
It comes as a UK player won the historic top prize of €230 million in last night’s EuroMillions draw.
