What are you playing this weekend? (May 7th)

If you’ve noticed that this week has been a bit quieter, that’s because Japan is celebrating Golden Week, a series of four national holidays when many companies grant holidays. For others, Star Wars Day was May 4th (okay, okay, May 4th), and that’s also considered a holiday, depending on who you’re talking to too! And tomorrow is Mother’s Day in the US, so Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who celebrates it!

As for the news, well there was a lot of talk about Reggie after the release of his book, Interruption of the game. Also, we finally got a new trailer for Mario Strikers: Battle League. There’s also a fun little Easter egg in the credits for Nintendo Switch Sports. And we have a sneak peak at the upcoming Netflix Sonic series, Sonic Prime.

Now it’s time to chill and discuss our game plans for the weekend. A few MMembers of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so don’t hesitate to read our posts and then join in with your own via our comments section. Enjoy!

Dear readers, I relented and bought a few games in the Spring Into Action sale. Incredibly, I didn’t own Gris yet, so this was my first purchase. The other game I snagged (ha!) is Umurangi Generation Special Edition – something I’ve been keeping an eye on since it released on Steam. One is a beautiful, sensual platformer about depression and grief, the other an urban, apocalyptic take on Pokémon Snap with cutting social commentary. I look forward to finally diving into both.

I will continue to look into Klonoa: Empire of Dreams which I like even more the second time around. I’ve been either busy this week or everywhere, so video games haven’t really incorporated into my routine. Instead, I just looked at a lot Metroid videos. Sometimes I need a good video essay or three. Have a nice weekend folks!

I’ve been aimlessly drifting between games on Switch so it’s time to focus! I think I’ll work through Two Point Hospital: Jumbo Edition which I recently got on sale and also try to stick with Disco Elysium: The Final Cut. Certainly very different games…

Elsewhere I’ll probably be splitting between Forza Horizon 5, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Max Paynedepending on what random mood I’m in.

Hellooooo [waves]. This weekend I’m looking to dig a little deeper into the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection; I’ve been sticking with the characters so far, which I know I’m pretty good with, so I’d like to branch off a bit and try someone new. Still enjoying it a lot, especially the later entries!

Elsewhere, I’ve decided to reboot Bioshock Infinite on the Switch. It’s been a while since I last played it and I’m excited to see if the gameplay and narrative hold up. I remember the bird thing being cool and jumping around on that hook, but other than that my memory is a bit fuzzy.

Without wanting to spoil anything, we have something very special planned for tomorrow and after being given a little preview of this passion project, courtesy of the lovely Mr. Zion Grassl, I’m excited to fire up Mother 3 and actually play the thing first time. I bought it in Japan last year and I’ve finished the fan translation to play it on my trusty GBA – I just haven’t found the time to actually play it! I feel like the game demands and deserves my full attention – it’s not the sort of thing I want to play in half-hour spells over the course of months. I’ll see if I can find the time this weekend.

In the meantime, have a great weekend everyone and keep an eye out for some heartwarming wholesomeness in the near future…

From top dog to bottom feeder, I forgot how gruesome it was getting promoted to Division 1 of the Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe league. It’s not really busy so this weekend is time to play Return of the Jedi to completion in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and keep crushing people on Nintendo Switch Sports.

Game of the week is Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I wasn’t ready for the amount of post-credits game content and to be honest…Kirby really is the gift that keeps on giving!

As always, thanks for reading! Leave us a comment below with your game plans for the weekend!
