What crown will Charles wear?
The guard reports that the Archbishop of Canterbury will put St Edward’s crown on Charles on the day of his coronation.
This is the iconic solid gold crown of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, dating back to 1661 and set with 444 colored gemstones including rubies, garnets, sapphires and tourmalines.
It also has a purple velvet center, is trimmed with fur and weighs 2.23 kg.
This is partly why the monarch wears the crown only at the moment of the coronation himself.
