ABBA will kick off their groundbreaking ABBA Voyage concert today, which will see the lines between digital and reality blur as the Swedish pop band performs as digital avatars in a specially built stage

ABBA Voyage concert will see ABBAtars of Swedish pop legends perform on stage

It’s been over four decades since their last tour, but ABBA is back on stage (sort of) for their ABBA Voyage concerts.

In fact, the members of ABBA will not appear on stage themselves, instead they will appear as digital avatars.

Last year, the iconic Swedish pop group released their first studio album since the release of The Visit in 1981.

Their ninth studio album, ABBA Voyage, has sold over a million copies in its first week worldwide and has received over 190 million streams to date.

Now the pop group is holding a breakout concert after their comeback to the music.

Here’s everything you need to know about ABBA Voyage.

What is ABBA Voyage Concert?

ABBA Voyage concert will be a unique experience

ABBA Voyage concert is ABBA’s brand new concert that will see fans experience the pop group in a performance like no other.

Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid will appear digitally to perform for thousands of fans.

ABBA Voyage concerts start today (Friday 27 May) and will last until at least December 2022.

A custom-built arena, named ABBA Arena, was built specifically for the shows at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

The 90-minute concert will feature a roster of ABBA hits, including songs from their recent ABBA Voyage album.

How does ABBA Voyage work?

The digital avatar of the band has been created using the latest technology

ABBA’s “hologram” concert isn’t actually a hologram concert, but it is the first of its kind because it blurs the line between physical and digital.

The hologram is a virtual hologram, but the show’s producers have said that this is not what they are using for the concert.

Last year, producer Svana Gisla told Dazed: “We don’t create holograms.

“I don’t think any of the hologram shows have been successful. After five minutes, I don’t think they’re that interesting.”

Instead, they created avatars, nicknamed ABBAtars, which appeared as digital versions of Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid.

ABBAtars will appear on a 65 million pixel screen and will bring the Swedish pop legend to life using the latest in motion capture technology.

The concert has been six years in the making. To create their digital selves, the band performed in motion capture suits for five weeks while 160 cameras scanned their body movements and facial expressions.

The groundbreaking technology used will allow ABBAtars to take audiences back in time as they describe the group as it did when they appeared in 1977.

ABBAtars will perform alongside 10 live musicians who will help bring the concert to life.
