Artificial Intelligence FANS are excited about a new app called ChatGPT – and it’s really impressive.
The stunning app can talk to you like a human, write poetry, give you baking tips, solve complicated puzzles and much more.
What is ChatGPT?
Technically, ChatGPT is a language model that can produce text.
What does that actually mean? It’s effectively an artificial intelligence system that can create human-like text.
You can feed it a command prompt and it will create a block of text that will continue.
And when it works properly, it reads in natural language as if it was written by a human.
It is based on the GPT 3.5 model developed by an AI research lab called Open AI in San Francisco.
How does the AI chatbot work?
GPT stands for Generative Pre-Trained Transformer.
A GPT “model” can create AI-generated content – so imagine a future where robots write more of what you see online.
This is exactly what ChatGPT does.
And it can even have conversations and learn from things you’ve said.
You could type something simple like, “What’s the best way to cook a potato?”
If you don’t like the answer, you could write, “No, give me a better recipe.”
A prompt can be even more complicated, like, “Create a personal training plan for me based on five days per week in the gym with weight lifting and cardio that takes about 45 minutes.”
In a way it’s like a search engine – but potentially a lot more powerful.
However, you should be warned that it is entirely possible that ChatGPT may provide you with incorrect or misleading information.
“These models have been trained on huge amounts of data from the web written by humans, including conversations, so the answers they provide can sound human-like,” Open AI explained.
“It is important to remember that this is a direct result of the system design (i.e. maximizing the similarity between the results and the dataset on which the models were trained).
“And that such disclosures can sometimes be inaccurate, untrue and otherwise misleading.”
Open AI warns: “ChatGPT is not connected to the internet and may occasionally provide incorrect answers. It has limited knowledge of the world and events after 2021 and may also occasionally produce harmful instructions or biased content.”
How to use ChatGPT
In order to use ChatGPT, you must first create an Open AI account.
You can do this by navigating to the official ChatGPT website.
Once in, just start typing in command prompts to get started.
You can keep your prompts in the same “conversation” or click “Reset Thread” to start over.
Remember that ChatGPT has “memory” so it understands what you’re saying in context of things you’ve already said in a thread.
The system tries to avoid judging things and also has filters to avoid saying anything offensive or overly sexual.
ChatGPT is currently free to use during the initial research preview.
But it can end up costing you money.
Their conversations aren’t entirely private either.
“As part of our commitment to safe and responsible AI, we review conversations to improve our systems and ensure content meets our policies and security requirements,” said Open AI.
“Your conversations can be reviewed by our AI trainers to improve our systems.”
ChatGPT can also be “full”: when the system is busy, Open AI might block you with a warning message that the service is “busy”.
