Dizzee Rascal is one of the UK’s most famous names in rap and has today appeared in court following charges against him.

The 37-year-old is best known for his hits Bonkers, Holiday and Bassline Junkie. He has denied the charges against him and pleaded not guilty in an earlier hearing.

The trial was adjourned to September 2021 and he was released on bail.

Chairman Alan Hutchings said at the pre-hearing: “You are released on conditions to appear again on February 18, 2022 at 10am.

“If you don’t return to this courthouse on that date and time, you may be committing a crime for which you could be fined or jailed.”

The bail conditions included that the rapper was not allowed to have direct or indirect contact with the complainant or her mother. Rascal is also not allowed near the street where she lives except through contact through child care attorneys.

The rapper, from Sevenoaks in Kent, arrived in court earlier today.

Dizzee Rascal is on trial for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassandra Jones in the London suburb of Streatham last June.

Met Police said at the time: “Dylan Mills, 36, of Sevenoaks, Kent, has been charged with assault following an incident at a residential address in Streatham on June 8.

“Officers attended and one woman reported minor injuries. She did not require hospital treatment.”

Croydon Magistrates Court previously tried the rapper accused of “pushing his head on the complainant’s head and pushing her to the ground”.

Dizzee denies this charge outright.

Cassandra and mother Dawn Kirk will be witnesses in the trial and Rascal’s tour manager and representative are also likely to be called.

Defense attorney Iskander Fernandez said: “[The manager] received a phone call when the alleged conflict took place.

“He received a very detailed account that contradicts what the complainant said.”
