TWITER Blue is a paid version of Twitter for dedicated tweeters.
If you’re an extremely avid Twitter user, you’ll want to know exactly what it means.
What is Twitter Blue?
Twitter Blue is a premium subscription service that bundles bonus features into the app.
But keep in mind that Twitter is changing very quickly these days.
Since Elon Musk As the app took over late last month, features come and go at lightning speed.
So there’s a good chance it’s already out of date by the time you’re reading this.
Right now you pay $7.99/£6.99 for a Twitter Blue membership.
It’s entirely optional: regular Twitter remains free during this phase.
You’ll get a blue tick that looks the same as verified accounts.
But tapping the checkmark explains that you’re verified as a Twitter Blue member — and for no other reason.
You’ll also get access to select new features, including the ability to edit tweets.
According to Twitter, several new features are also in the works.
One is that your tweets are prioritized, pushed to the top of mentions, replies, and searches.
You’ll also see 50% fewer ads than non-subscribers.
And you will eventually have the ability to post longer videos to Twitter as well.
How does Twitter Vlue verification work?
Twitter Blue verification is not like regular verification.
An officially verified account means that the team at Twitter has verified an individual and believes they are important enough – or at risk of significant impersonation – to authenticate their profile.
This is usually reserved for key figures in news, entertainment, politics, or other important industries.
A verified account has a blue tick on their profile and tweets.
With Twitter Blue, you get the same blue tick, but you’re not actually “verified”.
That means it’s possible for accounts impersonating others to have a blue tick — although it would be against Twitter’s Rules if it weren’t declared a “spoof,” which would ultimately result in a ban.
You can tell confirmed and blue ticks apart by tapping the icon on a profile.
This will show if a tagged user paid for their icon or if it was awarded by the Twitter verification team.
Twitter Blue is currently only available for iOS in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
But there are plans to expand this.
If you created your account on or after November 9, 2022, you cannot subscribe to Twitter Blue “at this time,” according to Twitter.
