Prince Harry arrived at Thanksgiving today with some medals. Here’s everything we know about his medals, as well as those other royals have
Prince Harry has returned to the UK with his wife Meghan Markle for a visit to the couple for the Queen’s Platinum Anniversary.
The couple moved to the US in 2020 but have now returned to the UK to celebrate the Queen’s 70th anniversary.
Prince Harry was not on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with other senior royals for yesterday’s Trooping the Color competition as he is no longer a “working royal”.
However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended Thanksgiving for the Queen at St Paul’s Cathedral today.
The couple were greeted to the church by cheers from the crowd outside and while Harry wore a simple black suit, his eyes were drawn to the many medals he was wearing for the service.
Harry served 10 years in the British Army and during his decades-long military career, he won many medals.
It is the tradition of the royals to wear their medals at important events. These are all the medals Harry has, as well as medals other members of the Royal Family have been spotted wearing.
What medals does Prince Harry have?
Prince Harry has had a stellar career in the military – he rose to the rank of Captain and made two tours of Afghanistan, and as a result he received several medals.
In 2002, Harry was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, awarded to those who had enlisted on 6 February 2002 and had been in the service for five years.
In 2008, the Duke received an Operational Service medal to mark his service on the front lines in Afghanistan.
In 2012, Harry received the Queen’s Diamond Medal, which marks the monarch’s sixtieth year on the throne and is awarded to all those in the Armed Forces, emergency services, prison services and members of the Royal Family.
He is also wearing a new Jubilee Platinum medal, created this year to celebrate the Queen’s 70th year of reign.
There has been speculation that Prince Harry and Andrew may not receive the medal because they have resigned from royal duties, but Harry was photographed wearing his attire for Jubilee today.
Harry also wears a Necklace and a KCVO Star, awarded for personal service to the monarchy.
In 2015, the prince was knighted by his grandmother for his service and made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO).
What medals does Mike Tindall have?
Mike Tindall, who is married to Zara Tindall, daughter of Princess Anne, was also seen displaying his medals at the celebration today.
This is the second Jubilee event that Mike and Zara attend, after being spotted at Trooping the Color yesterday.
When they arrive at the Church today, Mike can be seen wearing several medals.
Like Harry, the former England rugby player was also awarded a Diamond Jubilee medal and a Platinum Jubilee medal.
He also has an MBE, which stands for Member of the Order of the British Empire, and is awarded for an outstanding achievement or community service.
What medals does Prince William have?
Like his brother, Prince William also has Gold, Diamond and Platinum medals.
The future king also has a Garter Star, which he was awarded in 2008 in recognition of his loyalty and service to the monarch.
