A former F1 driver believes he has spotted a trend from last season that could give Hamilton and Mercedes an edge over their rivals.

Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton has been supported to eliminate competition from Red Bull during the next season by a former Formula 1 drivers believe the Silver Arrows’ actions in 2021 could give them an edge this year.
While Mercedes appeared upset by that result, they can at least console themselves with the championship trophy for the eighth year in a row.

“I think Mercedes did a great job last year, because the budget cap was in effect,” Herbert said.
“Last year, they didn’t spend that much – I think their big upgrade was at Silverstone, while Red Bull seems to be doing more or less every race we’ve been in.
“So there will probably be a budget push towards what [Mercedes] will be done this year.
“Mercedes – I think it could happen again for Lewis.”
Herbert’s request came after Hamilton admits for the first time that he is seriously considering retirement after his painful defeat in Abu Dhabi.
Rumors swirled around his F1 future for weeks as Mercedes chief Wolff admitted his star driver was “disillusioned” by missing out on the title through no fault of his own.
Hamilton has been confirmed to return in 2022, but admits he has given real thought to calling it a date.
“Naturally, I think that at the end of any season, maybe for people my age, of course you’re thinking about the future,” he said.
“What are the next steps you’re thinking about? What’s the right step for you to take and what’s the right step for you in terms of overall happiness?
“So I always evaluate all my options.”
