The government recently issued new advice for Britons hoping to get a new passport ahead of their travel plans.

The current policy is to allow up to 10 weeks to get it back, although many have said it was only five weeks when they sent theirs.

HM Passport Office Director General Abi Tierney said: “Now that international travel has resumed we know people will be trying to go on holiday and yet many people are leaving too late to get a passport to apply.

“The summer holidays are fast approaching. So if you need a new passport, we urge you to apply now.

“Our dedicated staff work tirelessly to ensure passport applications are processed as quickly as possible.”

However, if your passport does not arrive on time, airlines and tour operators will not issue a refund if you have to cancel your holiday as this is out of their control.

While you can try to claim through your travel insurance, most don’t cover this issue either.

Instead, it’s best to postpone the holidays, although this will incur additional fees that you will have to pay.

Many tour operators allow you to move dates for a fee, as long as you cover the price difference.

If they don’t offer a refund, they may offer you the price of the holiday as a credit to use at a later date.

Here’s the exact one Date when you need to renew your passport to ensure it arrives in time for the summer holidays.
