WhatsApp is getting a huge update that will make it more like Instagram

WHATSAPP will make a massive change to improve its unpopular status feature.

The platforms started states in the app in 2017 but they have been hidden under their own tab so they are pretty much neglected by most users.

But in a future update, WhatsApp seems to be making a big push that will make it Instagram more than ever.

According to leaked screenshots, techies are planning to add user statuses directly to the main chat list.

That way no one can overlook it.

When WABetaInfo – who uncovered the overhaul – explains: “When the user clicks on the chat cell, WhatsApp opens the conversation with the contact, but when they click on the profile picture of the contact who posted a status update, their status update displayed.

“Once this feature is released, I’m sure more people will start seeing status updates posted by their contacts.”

It’s not clear when WhatsApp plans to roll out the changes as work on them is still ongoing.

And as always with early leaks like this one, WhatsApp bosses may well decide not to go ahead and abandon the plans.

It’s also not the only optimization the meta’s own service is developing.

Testers also noticed new end-to-end indicators.

This isn’t quite as important, but it seems that a footer appears at the bottom of the chats list, reminding users that their chats are up End-to-end encrypted.

It has recently been revealed that users may soon have the ability to link a second smartphone to their WhatsApp account.
