WhatsApp is giving millions of devices access to a new feature that will change the way you text messages forever

WHATSAPP polls are now available on iPhone and Android — but they don’t stop there.

The popular chat app is working to bring polls to millions more devices in a future update.

WhatsApp polls are also coming to desktop

Polls for WhatsApp chats rolled out globally earlier this month.

But there was one big gap: WhatsApp on the desktop.

If you’re using a computer, you can’t create your own poll.

Now for the sniffer dogs WABetaInfo have spotted the addition of polls to the WhatsApp for Windows desktop beta.

If you’re in beta, you should start creating polls soon.

“If you want to create a poll, you need to click the attach icon next to the chat bar,” WABetaInfo explained.

“A poll shortcut will appear and open the view shown in this screenshot.

“You can add up to 12 options to the poll, and it’s always end-to-end encrypted so only other people in the same conversation can read and answer it.”

The feature works the same as it does on iOS and Android and is available in both individual and group chats.

Unfortunately, it’s not exactly clear when polls will be rolling out broadly to desktop — but they’re likely to come soon, since the feature is already available on mobile.

If you want to try the latest WhatsApp features first, follow our guide below to join the beta.

How to get WhatsApp beta

To download WhatsApp Beta for your smartphone, you need to go to Google Play on your smartphone Android and search for whatsapp.

Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.

Tap the “I’m in” button, then tap “Join” to confirm.

Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.

Join the WhatsApp beta iOS is more difficult and has a limited capacity.

How to create a WhatsApp poll on iPhone or Android

First you should make sure you have updated your WhatsApp.

That means diving into the Apple App Store for iOS for iPhone or the Google Play Store for Android.

After updating, check your WhatsApp app.

Open a chat, then look for the + icon at the bottom of the screen.

This is the same button you would normally use to add a document or share your location.

Tap on it and look for Poll at the bottom.

If it’s not there, you may have to wait a few days for the rollout to complete.

Once you see Poll, tap on it and you’ll be taken to a brand new view.

The first field is Question. You can add what you like.

It can be a word or a phrase, or even an emoji followed by a question mark.

Then start filling out your survey options – up to a maximum of 12.

WhatsApp will warn you if one of your replies is a repeat of a previous one.

You can also adjust the order of the answers using the hamburger icon (three lines stacked on top of each other) on the right. So don’t worry about putting them in the right order at first.

When you’re done, click Submit.

When you end a poll in progress, you can either continue editing it or discard it.

Unfortunately you cannot save it for later. Use it or lose it.

Keep in mind that survey recipients can select multiple answers if they wish.

But you can’t select the same answer more than once – so respondents can’t skew the numbers unless they’re also in the group with a different account.

Anyone in the chat can see the poll as long as their app is updated.

You can also tap the View Votes button at the bottom of an existing poll to get a better view of who voted and when.
