WhatsApp lets you text LESS with clever new update – here’s how it works

WHATSAPP’s next big update could make you text LESS – by adding emoji reactions.

The top secret feature is currently in development but could be months or even weeks away.

WhatsApp does not currently have a system for emoji reactions.

But guy Meta-own app Facebook has had post and comment reactions for years.

And it could be a great way to text less – because you could just “react” to messages instead of having to type in replies.

WhatsApp was already Test the function for a while now.

So far, the tested feature had six reactions: Like, Love, Laugh, Shocked, Teary Eye, and Pray (or high five…).

But the WhatsApp sniffer dogs WABetaInfo have discovered a major change to the feature.

Now a plus icon will appear, which might indicate that you can add different emoji reactions.

“Some people want to use more emojis as reactions,” WABetaInfo said.

“And WhatsApp is finally working on a new version that will offer more reactions to a future update of the app.”

The feature is currently being developed in the beta version of WhatsApp.

This is a test app used to test new WhatsApp features before releasing them to the public.

That means the emoji reaction feature could change before launch.

Or it could even be scrapped altogether.

What we don’t know yet is exactly which emoji you can add.

“There is no indication in the app that lets us know which new emoji set is being added,” explained WABetaInfo.

“But if we look at Facebook Messenger and Instagram, it’s possible to choose any emoji you want.

“Probably WhatsApp also lets us choose any emoji.”

The upside is that you’ll probably end up texting less.

Instead of having to type in an answer, you can simply respond to something someone said.

This could mean getting more replies from die-hard anti-copywriters who often leave you reading.

It works across iPhone and Androidso no one is left out.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to say how long it will take for a more general rollout.

But since it’s a fairly basic feature that’s already been tested in other apps, it could be a matter of weeks.

Either way, you can sign up for the WhatsApp beta below.

Or if you don’t feel like it, you can just wait for the full general update – which might come later this year.
