According to leaked screenshots, a whole new contact info page is on the way for all your friends and family.

The updated UI includes a new search message shortcut to make it easier to find specific chats.

As noted by WABetaInfo For those who noticed, the update isn’t too different from a redesign rolled out to WhatsApp business accounts.

This was first introduced in August.

Only a few early testers have managed to get their hands on the changes so far.

This is apparently due to the fact that WhatsApp is only rolling it out to certain accounts in a slow phase.

And as always with these early leaks, the bosses might choose not to launch it at all.

Beta testers give developers a chance to see if new features are worthwhile, so not all of them get included in the final release, which everyone in the public has access to.

But the fact that something similar has already been deployed for WhatsApp business accounts is promising.

Meta’s own app is constantly adding new things for fans.

Recently, techies from the company began testing a major change to it Message disappearing feature.

The feature currently allows you to set WhatsApp to automatically back off from sending texts after a certain amount of time.

This will delete the message from your phone and also from everyone’s device.

But a new change to the feature would allow you to exempt certain texts from being deleted.

WhatsApp – a quick story

Here’s what you need to know…

  • WhatsApp was developed in 2009 by computer programmers Brian Acton and Jan Koum – former employees of Yahoo
  • It is one of the most popular messaging services in the world
  • Koum came up with the name WhatsApp because it sounded like “what’s up”.
  • After a series of tweaks, the app was released in June 2009 with a messaging component, with 250,000 active users
  • It was originally free but switched to a paid service to avoid growing too quickly. In 2016 it became free again for all users
  • Facebook bought WhatsApp Inc in February 2014 for $19.3 billion (£14.64 billion).
  • The app is especially popular because all messages are encrypted in transit, eliminating snoopers
  • As of 2020, WhatsApp has over 2 billion users worldwide
