The 2022 Winter Olympics are ready to begin in Beijing. The time zone difference between China and the US can make it hard to figure out when, but we’re here to help.
When does the Olympics start?
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday night, at 8 p.m. Beijing time. That would be 7 a.m. EST and 4 a.m. pacific time. Unlike some years ago, NBC will broadcast the ceremony live in the United States in the morning and then repeat in prime time.
Some preliminary events will be held through the end of Friday. But most sporting activities begin on Saturday, February 5.
What is the time zone difference?
Beijing is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. So when it’s dark in China, it’s light in the United States and vice versa.
For a quick conversion, subtract Beijing time by one, and flip the am and pm hours to get Eastern time. So 8pm in Beijing is 7am Eastern. And 11 a.m. in Beijing is 10 p.m. in the East, a day before.
Many important events will be held in the evenings in Beijing, and therefore early in the morning for US audiences.
How can I watch the Olympics?
NBC, the broadcaster in the United States, had previously reserved some morning events for prime time television broadcasts. But the network will also stream or televise nearly every event for those who want to watch it in real time. In many cases, especially for West Coast audiences, watching events live will require waking up very early.
NBC has said that it plans to cover every event on NBC stations, NBCUniversal-owned cable channels, nbcolympics.com and the NBC Sports app.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation will broadcast the Olympics in Canada.
How are the Olympics structured?
After the opening ceremony, the Congress took place for 16 days. Many events, especially figure skating, Alpine skiing, hockey, and billiards, span nearly every day of the Olympics. Figure skating when?

Gold medal matches are on February 16 at 11:10 p.m. EST for women and February 19 at 11:10 p.m. EST for male.
When to curl your hair?

What are some new events?
