Dan Biggar ‘frustrated, upset, disappointed’ after Wales win over France
Although their defense of Six Nations crown was extinguished all too soon, Wales can still exit the tournament bravely if they are welcomed Italy on Saturday in the Fürstenstadion.
Wayne Pivac’s men were wrapping up recent losses England and France as the dominant party threatens to close a 17-point deficit against the former. Then they gave theirs to the tabletop Bleus toughest game of the tournament so far, but the Cardiff crowd can afford to be more confident in the fifth round.
Alun Wyn Jones will Return to Wales XV as one of seven substitutions for the hosts and has since played his first rugby game re-injuring his shoulder against New Zealand in October. The Osprey legend will make a record-breaking 150th appearance for Wales, not to mention his 162nd Test overall (12 for the British and Irish Lions).
dear lion Dan Biggar however, will retain the captaincy as he prepares to lead the team in his 100th appearance in Wales. Arguably the player of the game in last Friday’s 13-9 defeat by France, the Star Fly half will be keen to lead this newly formed line-up to a positive conclusion to their six-nation quest.
The Azzurri have made just two changes themselves, the most notable of which is Ange Capuozzo making his senior debut as a full-back. The Grenoble talent, 22, came off the bench to make his debut in one 33-22 loss to Scotland last time he celebrated the occasion with a comforting series of tries.
Wales have won the last 16 meetings between these teams and have never lost at home to Italy in so many editions. Kieran Crowley’s men are already guaranteed to leave this year’s Championship with a seventh straight wooden spoon but are at least hoping to scratch their first point in Cardiff.
