Households across the UK are facing a cost of living crisis as bills continue to mount, and many are looking for ways to keep costs down.

You need to wash your clothes, but did you know that using your washing machine can have a big impact on your energy bills?

Deciding to do your laundry at a different time of day could help you stay on top of your finances and, by some estimates, could save you quite a bit of money.

The most expensive time to run your washing machine is between 4pm and 7pm. So if this is you, you might be paying three times what you should to have your clothes washed.

Ofgem, the energy regulator, raised the energy price cap to £1,917 and increased the price of annual household bills by £693.

One way to keep bills down is to take a look at your energy use to see if there are any areas where you’re wasting it.

Electrical appliances are a good place to start, as electricity costs fluctuate throughout the day, so anything that isn’t always on can be a major liability if used at the wrong moment.

A washing machine uses around 1kWh of energy for an hour of washing, which costs around 28p. If you washed one load a week that would be £14.56 a year or £29.12 for two washes and three would cost £43.56.

Some energy suppliers charge at peak times, e.g. B. between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., more for the electricity.

Some companies charge as little as 9.76 for off-peak electricity, about a third of the 28p during prime time.

The UK has already been hit by the cost of living crisis and millions of families face an even bleaker future thanks to a series of price hikes.

And activists warn the cruel increases could crush low-income households as they demanded Rishi Sunak call for an emergency budget to deal with the agony.
