Where is Jimmy Savile buried? The Mystery of Paedo’s £4,000 Top Stone

After Jimmy Savile’s death, there were revelations that stunned an entire nation still reeling from the sick crimes he committed.

The life of ‘national treasure’ Jimmy Savile is said to be an eccentric and philanthropist, but behind his faded glasses lies a murky world of pedophiles, shrouded by the rising smoke of his famous cigar.

And with new Netflix docuseries Jimmy Savile: British Horror Story streaming from April 6, attention will once again turn to how justice escaped.

The notorious British pedophile is said to have preyed on 500 victims in his lifetime – some as young as two years old – as well as patients being treated at Broadmoor Hospital.

At Broadmoor, a former nurse told investigators he performed acts on corpses and “mummified them” in the morgue.

As well as the Netflix show, a new BBC drama starring comedian Steve Coogan will also explore Savile’s life and crimes later this year.

Savile’s horrors led to a public outcry after his death. The anger was so overwhelming that Savile’s stele was eventually removed from his grave.

Where is Jimmy Savile buried?

Savile asked to be buried at a 45 degree angle so that he could see the sea

The disgraced pedophile Jimmy Savile is buried at Woodlands Cemetery in Scarborough.

Savile lives in Scarborough and has a long association with the area. He was buried there at a 45-degree angle so that he could enjoy the view of the cemetery facing the sea, despite being six meters shorter.

Most of the charges against Savile come after the Fix-It host Jim’s passing, but there are many allegations during his lifetime that are often dismissed.

His television success raised concerns about how his victims were dismissed or ignored during his lifetime, while his recognition as a ‘boss’ and public Charity meant his funeral was lavish.

People lined the streets to hold his funeral at Leeds Cathedral when he died in October 2011, aged 84.

After learning about Jimmy Savile’s crimes came to light, his family removed his gravestone “out of respect for the public.”

The headstone cost around £4,000 and was removed late at night in 2012, under the supervision of funeral home chief executive Robert Morphet.

The stele reads “it’s as good as it gets” and is then sent to a landfill.

Morphet explained: “The grave will now be demolished so the inscription will be completely erased and will be destroyed. It will be broken up, placed in a bin and used as a landfill.”

A statement released by the Savile family said: “Family members are acutely aware of the impact that the stone left there can have on the dignity and sanctity of the cemetery.

“Out of respect for the opinion of the public, for those who are buried there, and who have graves and visit there, we have decided to remove it.”
