After the election, Mr. Trump and his associates had many interactions with Georgia officials, including a call in which he urged Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find 11,780 votes,” the number of votes he needed to take the lead in the state held by President Biden.
It is the only known criminal investigation to focus directly on Mr. Trump’s attempt to overturn the election results. In January, Fulton County’s top judge approved Miss Willis .’s request to a special grand jury in this matter.
Washington DC lawsuit
In January 2020, Karl Racine, attorney general for the District of Columbia, to sue Mr. Trump’s Inaugural Committee, Say It pay too much his family business — more than $1 million — for space at the Trump International Hotel during its January 2017 inauguration.
The lawsuit, which names the inaugural committee, the hotel and the Trump Organization as defendants, will go to trial in September, after a judge ordered last week that it could proceed.
Mr. Racine’s office has subpoenaed a range of parties, including Melania Trump, the former first lady, and has questioned Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump and Thomas J. Barrack Jr., who chaired the inaugural committee.
Request January 6
A House committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol – supported by more than a dozen former federal prosecutor — is looking at the role Mr. Trump and his allies may have played in their bid to stay in power following his defeat in the November 2020 election.
Although the commission itself does not have the power to bring criminal charges, it can refer the matter to Attorney General Merrick B. Garland to prosecute them through the Department of Justice.
