Where to find diamonds in Minecraft update 1.18

Minecraft’s last major update overhauled the world height, and with more depth to play, you’ll need to go even deeper to find diamonds and ores.

Minecraft’s Caves and Cliffs update is split into two parts; patch 1.17 of last July and Patch 1.18 of November.

In addition to bringing new blocks, items, and mobs into the game, the Minecraft 1.18 update added large ore veins and changed the way ore is distributed to compensate for the increased world height.

And that means if you’re after diamonds to craft top-notch weapons and armor, you’ll have to change your tactics.

Minecraft ores are found underground, so it’s anything below zero.

Before the update, you had a chance to find them in your underground travels, no matter how deep you dig.

Since patch 1.18 came out, diamonds are still found at level -16 and below, but they become more common the further down you go, and the rarer they become near the surface.

In general, diamonds spawn from level -16 to -64.

But if you want lots of diamonds – and fast – then your best bet is to get to level -58 or -59.

This way you will avoid the platform being found on -60 to -64 which can slow down your mining progress.

Tips for mining diamonds in Minecraft 1.18

When you get to the bottom of the earth, there are a few things to watch out for – lava, mobs and a fatal fall.

Carrying a bucket of water will help deal with any pockets of lava you come across

When digging, keep the area small, about two blocks wide, so you don’t have to wobble precariously in a giant wormhole of your own making.

And to prevent mobs from spawning, make sure your page is full of torches so you can stick them on the wall and stop the mobs.
