How Champions League draw plays out amid chaos with so-called draw

Juventus are looking to end their recent disappointing streak in Champions League when they took on Villarreal in the round of 16.

It has been five years since the Old Lady made it through to the quarterfinals of the competition, which was the last time they appeared in the tournament final – which proved to be a heavy 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid.

They had reached the same stage just two years earlier before losing 3-1 on aggregate first Barcelona.

The man who led both of those finals is now back in the hot seat, but there is other opposition in La Liga standing in their way in the form of Unai Emery’s side.

Team News

Juventus are facing some fitness problems ahead of their meeting in Spain, with experienced defenders Leonardo Bonucci and Georginio Chiellini both sidelined.

Paulo Dybala is also likely to miss the game due to a thigh problem, while there are doubts about Federico Bernardeschi and Daniele Rugani.

A bonus for the Italian club is rookie Dusan Vlahovic who is expected to make his European debut.

Villarreal meanwhile has a long-term absentee trio of Francis Coquelin, Gerard Moreno and Ruben Pena.

In addition, new loan signing Giovani Lo Celso is a doubt and will have to undergo a late fitness test, as will Etienne Capoue.

Form Instructions

Allegri’s side went into the game with two consecutive draws in an impeccable form since the start of the new year.

They had to settle a point at home against Torino on Friday having taken the lead from the 13th minute, while last weekend they only salvaged a point thanks to Danilo’s equalizer in stoppage time.

Villarreal, by comparison, will have plenty of confidence going into the game, having beaten Granada 4-1 away on Saturday, with Arnaut Danjuma scoring a hat-trick.

That leaves them with a six-match winless streak, earning them a point ahead of both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
