02 Academy Brixton has been forced to close until at least Monday, January 16, meaning the cancellation or postponement of a wide range of concerts.
ambeth Council’s licensing subcommittee has decided the south London site must be temporarily closed after two people died in a crowd jostling at the venue.
Trivium and Chase Atlantic are among the companies listed on the official website as playing the 4,921-seat capacity space in the coming weeks.
Following the closure, however, it appears that those performances will be canceled, pushed back, or moved to other venues.
Ahead of a committee meeting on Thursday, the venue canceled its DnB Allstars New Year’s Eve party featuring artists including Shy FX and Benny Page.
Australian band Chase Atlantic will perform for three days at the venue from January 11-13, and all three nights are sold out.
Heilung, an experimental folk band consisting of members from Denmark, Norway and Germany, is set to perform on Saturday, January 14.
On Sunday, January 15, American heavy metal band Trivium will take the stage.
If the venue is forced to close for a while longer, other important dates may also be cancelled.
Swedish rock band Viagra Boys will perform on Wednesday, January 25, while in February there are scheduled gigs by Royksopp, Ezra Collective and Circa Waves.
Security guards Gaby Hutchinson, 23, and Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, were seriously injured when fans without tickets tried to enter a performance by Nigerian artist Asake at the venue on Thursday, May 15. 12. Both later died in hospital.
Following the frenzy, Belgian band 2manydjs postponed their Saturday performance there, rescheduled for Saturday February 18.
