Who is Kye Whyte?

Born September 1999, Kye, 22, started riding BMX at the age of three.

Equestrian activity runs in the family, with his father Nigel, who co-founded the popular Peckham BMX Club.

It was from here that Whyte got the nickname ‘Prince of Peckham’ and started his ascent from the streets of South London to the Tokyo Olympics.

Along with brother Tre, the pair joined the UK Cycling Team in 2017.

But it was a rough start at the national level for Kye, who suffered a brain bleed after an accident and was in a coma for five days.

He came back strong and won a European Championship silver medal in 2018, before scoring his first World Super Cup win in Manchester a year later.

Whyte was part of Team GB’s Olympic team at Toyko 2020 and won a silver medal as the Briton attended stormy BMX events.

He was surpassed by Dutch star Niek Kimmann in a thrilling contest, with his feats helping to propel BMX into the mainstream as an avid public watched back home.

The Olympic athlete currently has over 40k followers on Instagram, where it looks like he will be documenting his Dancing on Ice journey.

Who is his Dancing on Ice partner?

Kye will perform on ice with 29-year-old professional skater, Tippy Packard.

His decision to join the show was announced on CBBC’s Newsround, and he told the hosts he “feels good” about signing up.

He confesses that although he skated as a child, that is his level of ability when it comes to competition – so, like many others, he has a lot to learn when about intimate routines on the ice rink.

He said, “I think I can win Dancing On Ice. I want to see if I can make it to the final because like I said, I’m very competitive. You know? I want to be in the final!”
