Who is Steve Bland?

Steve Bland is a Cheshire-based Podcaster and Podcast Producer.

He co-hosts the podcast You, Me and the Big C with Deborah James and Lauren Mahon.

He also works part-time as a PR consultant for Sale Sharks Rugby Club.

The journalist has written for the Daily Telegraph, The Times and The Guardian and produced cross-platform content for BBC Sport and BBC Radio 5 Live.

Steve married journalist Rachael in 2013 and the couple had a son together – Freddie.

Steve regularly speaks about his own story and dealing with grief on TV shows such as ITV’s Lorraine and BBC Breakfast.

In March 2020, he announced that he had found love again 18 months after the death of his wife.

Who was Steve’s wife Rachael Bland?

Rachael Bland was a British journalist and presenter from Cardiff, Wales.

During her career she has worked with BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC World News and BBC North West Tonight.

She was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in November 2016.

In the early stages of her diagnosis, Rachael continued presenting on Radio 5 Live.

She then co-hosted the BBC podcast You Me and the Big C with Lauren Mahon and Deborah James.

The podcast quickly became popular for its discussion of cancer and the trio’s self-deprecating humor to cope with their situation.

Two years after her diagnosis, Rachael passed away on September 5, 2018 at the age of 40.

What did Steve say about Deborah James?

Steve has praised You Me and Big C co-host Deborah as their fundraiser for colon cancer research hit more than £4million – just hours after she was made a Dame.

Deborah was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer in 2016.

She shared on social media that on May 9, 2022, she moved to a home hospice as her body “just can’t go on anymore.”

Steve tweeted: “I’m literally shaking. So so so proud of DAME @bowelbabe for everything she is and everything she has achieved not just in the last two days with @BowelbabeF but in the last five years.

“No one has ever deserved such recognition more. #DameDeborahJames.”

Speaking at the BBC Breakfast on Friday May 13, 2022, Steve praised Deborah, her fundraising efforts and how much people adored her.

He said: “It’s amazing, but that’s what Deborah does. She has been doing that for five years.”
