Before the 2021 season, the Dodgers paid the highest luxury tax rates and also the most pay cuts.

Last year, they had a salary of $285m (£212m), the second-highest in MLB history – after their own $291m (£217m) salary in 2015.

Boehly also previously led one of the largest collateralized loan obligation deals in history at more than $1 billion.

That means he took out a loan to buy the franchise, using the franchise’s money to pay for the loan.

It’s similar to what The Glazer did with Manchester Unitedthis has seen them be enormous in size fire from their fans, even though their loan obligations trade is a fraction of Boehly’s.

That could be dangerous for Chelsea fans, who are used to Abramovich spending at the club relatively liberally.
