Who will replace Jeremy Paxman as host of the University Challenge?

Jeremy Paxman has announced that he will step down as host of the College Challenge after 28 years.

The BBC says the show’s new presenter, which shares students in teams of four against rival universities and colleges, will be announced later this week.

Here’s a look at the runners and those who could replace him in the presenter’s chair.

– Sandi Toksvig

According to the bookie Ladbrokes, the house Ladbrokes offers her odds of 2/1.

Toksvig has had a lot of experience organizing quiz shows after reaching QI since 2016 and became a favorite when he organized the Great British Bake Off with Noel Fielding.

– Richard Osman

Richard Osman (Matt Crossick / PA)

In April, Osman announced he would be leaving the BBC One game show Pointless after nearly 13 years to devote more time to writing novels, but his departure also lends himself to Paxman’s success.

In response to news of Paxman’s passing, the 51-year-old tweeted: “Two presenters for 50 years. Both are brilliant. One of my biggest claims to fame is that I introduced Jeremy Paxman to Nando’s. “

Osman could be the third host, after Bamber Gascoigne and Paxman, with Ladbrokes offering him odds of 3/1.

The 54-year-old revealed on Twitter that she approached the show “several months ago” and was drafted as “host”.

Ahmed added: “I enjoyed working with the fab team who seemed to love me and just covered a UC documentary to be broadcast on BBC2. And I’d also love to help ask some questions for this series.

“But no one from the BBC has spoken to me about the takeover yet. I am always happy to go through a fair and honest process and be judged on my merits. I am fine.”

Author Sir Philip Pullman endorsed her after tweeting: “Great idea. I’m all for it.”
