Why booking an airport lounge before your flight can save you money

WHILE an airport lounge might not be at the top of your list of things to pay for before your flight, it could actually save you money in the end.
A recent study found that Brits spend so much on food and alcohol before flying that a lounge is actually cheaper.
according to Holiday Extrasa family of four spends an average of £100 on pre-flight snacks and meals.
Travelers are spending around £26.30 each before their flight at five pre-pandemic, with groceries and snacks being the most important.
However, some lounges start as low as £15 per person, while children start at just £9.
This works out to just £48 for a family of four – more than half the cost.
Lounges offer food and drink, as well as quieter seating, magazines and charging stations, while even pricier lounges, starting at around £26, can also include showers and pods.
Elizabeth Hogg, chief operating officer at Holiday Extras, said: “Our latest research suggests that not booking an airport lounge before your flight could be a mistake.”
Many of the lounges are also open late, some from 4am to 11pm, so you can grab something when the other shops are closed.
There are a few ways to even get free lounge access at the airport.
the American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card includes two free tickets to the Lounge Club, which provides up to 700 lounges.
And Britons who book a four or five star holiday with At the beach also get free access to an airport lounge.
Here are the best airport lounges in the world – This includes a whiskey tasting at a distillery and sunbathing at a rooftop pool.
A previous study found The No1 Lounge in Gatwick South Terminal to be the best airport lounge in the UK.
And there is a fantasy private lounge in manchester with chauffeured transport and chef-cooked meals for economy travelers too.
Or head to Gatwick North where EasyJet has opened its first lounge, The Gateway, from £18.50.
