ITV talent show Starstruck has been put on hold this weekend due to rugby.
The new show has four judges – Sheridan Smith, Jason Manford, Adam Lambert and Beverley Knight – giving their verdict on groups of singers posing as their favorite artists, while Olly Murs hosts the show.
To date, members of the public have been transformed into a number of musical legends including Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion and Diana Ross as well as modern pop stars like Billie Eilish, Harry Styles and even Olly herself.
But the ITV show was canceled this weekend due to a sporting event.
Instead of broadcasting Starstruck, ITV will now show the Six Nations rugby league live as England play France. The show starts at 7:15 p.m., with the match kicking off after 45 minutes at 8 p.m., when Starstruck usually airs.
As a result, the popular show Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway will also be canceled for a week.
Starstruck drew some comparisons to Stars In their Eyes – and judge Jason admitted it was “exactly” like the show.
“It’s exactly like the Stars in their eyes. There’s no reason to pretend. But it’s been enhanced by the 21st ITV,” he said.
Fellow judge Beverley added: “It ticks all the boxes; it’s that laid-back feeling, the family fun, that’s what we all need right now. The performances will help us. Good entertainment and I can’t wait to see if anyone wants to dress up as me for the night!”
Sheridan said she was “delighted” to be on the show.
“Growing up, I always enjoyed watching TV Saturday night with my family so I’m so excited to be on Starstruck,” she shared, “Making Cilla Black for TV, I knew firsthand what it’s like to be a star. Music is so iconic, so I can’t wait to see what some of the contestants will do with modern music artists and our true icons.
“And with everything else going on at the moment, this is just the kind of show we can all enjoy together!”
She admitted having a son helped her decide to join the show, as she added: “I guess part of it is having a son, you know, I’ve always shied away from talent shows before. I think maybe I was afraid to step out of my comfort zone as an actress.”
