“Why should we pay for the failings of Brighton City Council?”

SO BRIGHTON and Hove City Council is offering £9.5million from the Government’s Leveling Up Fund to fund the Madeira Terrace restoration.

His bid is for “the restoration of the eastern 865 meters of the Madeira Terraces, the Victorian Shelter Hall and the 200-year-old Biodiversity Green Wall”.

The works will “improve access to the area for the disadvantaged communities on the Bristol Estate and Whitehawk while improving the significant damage to the derelict Grade II* Listed Terrace”.

The terrace would not have decayed if the municipality had performed basic routine maintenance and actually ordered the “green wall” to be demolished.

Why should taxpayers pay for the Council’s shortcomings?

The Argus has reported on numerous occasions over the years that money is on budget (including public fundraising) and work is about to begin. Why are you asking for this money?
