Why you shouldn’t make your bed first thing in the morning

A cleaning expert has revealed why you shouldn’t make your beds in the morning and warns of the disgusting effects it could have.

Ms D, known for her tips and tricks for keeping a clean house, shared the warning with her followers on social media.

She emphasized that it’s important to let beds “breathe” in the morning before making them.

During the nights, hot and damp sheets attract bed buds and dirt, which is then trapped in the linens when the beds are made first thing in the morning.

Instead, she says, leave the covers open for a while after waking up.

Ms D. wrote on Instagram: “It seems that many people immediately get up and make the bed. You must stop doing this.

“Get out of bed and throw back the covers and let your bed breathe.

“Not only do we sweat at night, we shed skin, and that’s a magnet for dust mites and bed bugs.

“They love damp and humid areas, and some people only let their bed breathe in the summer and think you don’t need that in the winter because of the cold weather.

“But that’s not true. Having central heating on in the winter can attract dust mites/bed bugs just as much as it can in the summer months.

“So by making your bed first thing in the morning you’re trapping all that humid air and helping dust mites/bed bugs to multiply (sounds awful, but it’s true).”

She added: “I know it’s nice to see your bedroom looking clean and fresh and of course we lead busy lives which means it’s easy to make the bed before you go to work.

“But doing that will help a lot. If you don’t have an hour in the morning, leave it until you get home and then make the bed… at least you’ll know it’s aired well.”
